Photo modes

Ultra-Res
Capture photos with the highest resolution for the most detail possible. Learn how.
Portrait

Keep your subject in focus and blur the surrounding scene as little or much as you like. Learn how.

Cutout

Snap a photo and then edit it to cut out your subject and replace the background. Learn how.

Macro

Capture up-close, vividly detailed photos of small objects with the dedicated macro lens. Learn how.

Spot Color

Choose one color and turn the rest of the photo black and white. Learn how.

Group selfie
Take a wide, panoramic selfie. Learn how.
Panorama

Pan to capture the whole scene. Learn how.

Cinemagraph

Animate part of your photo while the rest remains still. Learn how.

Live Filter
Apply a Google filter to add photo effects in realtime and preview your shot before you capture a photo. Learn how.
Night Vision

Use this mode in low light conditions to bring details out of the dark, capturing vivid photos with more accurate colors. Learn how.

Active photos

Save seconds of video before and after you capture a photo. This works only with regular point-and-shoot photos. It isn’t compatible with the photo modes listed above. Learn how.

Manual

For all modes listed above, your camera digitally processes the images. To bypass this digital processing and control camera settings such as ISO or macro focus, use Manual mode. Learn how.

Video modes

For standard video, just start recording. Or, touch and select any of these modes before recording, to include visual effects.

Portrait

Macro

Capture up-close, vividly detailed videos of small objects with the dedicated macro lens. Learn how.

Slow Motion

Take a video, then select a portion to play in slow-motion. You can adjust this any time you play the video. Learn how.

Timelapse

Make time appear to be moving faster. This mode works well for mostly static scenes that change slowly, like a flower opening, or have motion in one area, like traffic. You select the speed before recording the video and can’t adjust it afterwards. Learn how.

AR Stickers
Add 3D augmented reality (AR) stickers that interact with the environment. Learn how.

Quickly open popular modes

With one touch, you can open the Camera app directly to any of these modes: Video, Selfie, Night Vision, Portrait. Just add a shortcut to your home screen.

To add a shortcut:

  1. Touch & hold .

  2. Drag one of the shortcuts to a blank space on your home screen.

Then touch the shortcut to open the viewfinder in that mode.
