Record a video

  1. On the viewfinder, touch to switch to video mode.
  2. If needed, choose the type of video to record:

    • To record a selfie video, touch .
  3. If needed, adjust video settings.

  4. To start, touch .
  5. While recording, you can:

    • Take a photo during your video by touching .
    • Pause recording by touching .
  6. To stop, touch .
  7. To watch your video, touch the thumbnail at bottom right. Then:

    • To view all thumbnails, touch the screen, then touch to open the Photos app.
    • To view videos or photos later, open the Photos app or other photo app you installed.

Record video with blurred background

Keep your subject in focus and blur the background of your video.

  1. On the viewfinder, touch > Portrait.
  2. Touch the screen where you want the focus and drag the ring if needed.
  3. To start, touch .
  4. While recording, you can:

    • Take a photo during your video by touching .
    • Pause recording by touching .
  5. To stop, touch .

Record video up-close with vivid detail

Use the macro lens for up-close video with vivid detail of tiny worlds.

  1. Attach a tripod or set up your phone so that it can’t move while you record.
  2. On the viewfinder, touch > Macro.
  3. Get close to your subject.
  4. To start, touch .
  5. To stop, touch .

Record a slow-motion video

  1. On the viewfinder, touch > Slow Motion.
  2. To start, touch .
  3. To stop, touch .
  4. Touch the thumbnail to open the video.
  5. Use the sliders to surround the frames to play in slow-motion. Or, surround all frames to play the entire video in slow-motion. You can reposition the sliders any time you play the video.

If you don’t want slow motion in the video, move the sliders together to play at normal speed.

Record a timelapse video

  1. Attach a tripod or set up your phone so that it can’t move while you record.
  2. On the viewfinder, touch > Timelapse.
  3. Select the speed multiplier to use. In general, use a faster speed for longer videos.
  4. To start, touch .

    You’ll see two counters, one that shows the duration of the recording and another that shows the duration the video will play when sped up.

  5. To stop, touch .

Record an augmented reality video

Add 3D augmented reality stickers that interact with the environment in your viewfinder, then capture them in a video.

  1. On the viewfinder, touch > AR Stickers.
  2. Add to your scene:

    • To add a sticker, touch and select from one of the tabs. You can add multiple stickers.
    • To add text or a speech bubble, touch , select the text option, type the message, and touch .
  3. Adjust the stickers or text:

    • To change its size, pinch in or out on it.
    • To move it, drag to the new position.
    • To delete it, touch & hold to select it, then touch .
    • To remove all stickers, touch > Clear the scene.
    • To control whether stickers make sounds, touch > Mute audio.
  4. Capture the scene:

    • To take a still photo, touch .
    • To take a video, touch & hold until you're done recording, then lift your finger to stop.

Adjust video settings

Before recording a video:

  • To turn video stabilization on, touch .
  • To turn the light on, touch .
  • To mute the video, touch > .

To change video resolution, touch and adjust settings:

  • For the front selfie camera or main rear camera, touch Video size.
  • For slow motion video, touch Slow motion size.
  • To reduce file size for streaming or broadcasting, turn on Efficient videos. This saves UHD videos as H.265/HEVC instead of H.264/AVC. Some platforms may not support the HEVC format. (Not available on moto g9 play, motorola defy.)

Lower resolution videos take up less space, but have lower image quality.

You can also adjust storage and metadata settings.
