Share your mobile data connection

You can share your phone's mobile data connection with a single computer via USB tethering or Bluetooth tethering. You can also share your data connection with multiple devices at once by turning it into a Wi-Fi hotspot. You can add encryption to your hotspot to prevent unauthorised access.

Share your data connection with a computer

  1. Connect your phone to your computer with a USB cable.

    You'll see in your notifications.

  2. On your phone, go to Settings.
  3. Make sure Wi‑Fi is off, and touch More> Tethering & mobile hotspot.
  4. Select USB tethering to start the connection.

To stop the connection, uncheck USB tethering, then disconnect your phone and computer.

Set up a Wi-Fi hotspot

  1. Go to Settings > More > Tethering & mobile hotspot.
  2. Touch Mobile hotspot settings and complete setup:

    • To set up security, touch Configure mobile hotspot; set up the name for your hotspot (Network SSID) and password and touch Save.
    • To limit the number of devices that can connect or to restrict access to only devices you specify, touch Manage devices.
    • To save battery life, you can configure when the hotspot should automatically turn off if nobody is using it. Touch Inactivity timeout and select a time.

Connect devices to your hotspot

  1. Go to Settings > More > Tethering & mobile hotspot.
  2. Check Mobile hotspot and plug your phone in to charge. Using the hotspot really drains the battery!

You'll see in the status bar, indicating that your hotspot is active. Devices can connect by entering the SSID and password.
