If your device doesn’t have enough storage space or does not have access to Wi-Fi, you can use LMSA to download and install firmware (software) updates.

If your device has access to Wi-Fi and enough storage, you can use Settings > System > Advanced > System updates to install updates without using LMSA.

Installing device software updates does not remove your content or apps.

To update device:

1. Connect your device with LMSA.
2. On the Flash tab, if the “New version” field shows that an Android OS upgrade or a security update is available, click Upgrade to download the software to your computer, which may take a few minutes.

3. If upgrading a Motorola device, before installing the software, LMSA prompts you to do one of the following:

   • If your phone has a removable battery, follow the on-screen instructions to disconnect the USB cable, power off the phone, remove the battery, then reconnect the USB cable.
   • If your phone does not have a removable battery, follow the onscreen instructions to enable Fastboot Flash mode (disconnect USB cable, power off the phone, hold volume down and power keys until the phone enters Fastboot Flash mode, then reconnect USB cable.)
4. After the software is installed, click Finish.
5. Remove downloaded firmware from your computer if no longer needed.

LMSA downloads firmware files to your computer before it flashes them to your device. After flashing your device, you can remove firmware files, which are large.

Set download location:

1. Click > Downloads.
2. To change the default download location, click Change.

Manage downloads:

1. Click > Downloads.

2. Do any of the following:

   • On the Ongoing tab, pause or resume downloads in progress.
   • On the Downloads tab, click to delete a downloaded file.
   • Click View to open the download location in Windows Explorer.
