Set ringtones

You can choose a unique ringtone for calls from specific people so that you'll know instantly who's calling. All other calls use the default ringtone.

TipIf you’re not hearing your ringtones, look for or in your status bar, which means you're in Do not disturb mode. Press the Volume Down button and touch End now to allow all calls to ring.

Change the default ringtone

  1. If you want to use a song as your default ringtone, make sure you have copied it to the Ringtones directory.
  2. Go to Settings > Sound & notification.
  3. Adjust the settings:

    • Touch Phone ringtone and select a ringtone or select None if you don't want the phone to ring.

    • Touch Also vibrate for calls to use a vibration with a ringtone. (To extend battery life, turn vibrate off.)

Set ringtone for a contact

  1. If you want to use a song as the person's ringtone, make sure you have copied it to the Ringtones directory.
  2. Touch > .
  3. Touch the contact's name.
  4. Touch > > Set ringtone.
  5. Select a ringtone to use. Or touch Default ringtone to revert to the default.

Contact-specific ringtones apply only to phone calls, not to notifications of text or email messages from that person.

Set ringtone for messages and notifications

To change the default sound used for notifications:

  1. If you want to use a song as the ringtone, make sure you have copied it to the Notifications directory.
  2. Go to Settings > Sound & notification > Default notification ringtone.
  3. Select the sound to use, or select None.

You can also assign a specific sound to notifications from some apps. Open the app, touch or , and look for Settings.

TipTo change your alarm sound, open the Clock app and touch . Then touch .

Download ringtones

Although your phone comes with lots of ringtones, you can also download custom sounds.

To download ringtones using an app:

  1. Search for “ringtones” in Play Store and install an app that provide ringtones.
  2. Open the app and use it to select a ringtone you like and assign the ringtone (default ringtone, contact, notification, alarm).

If you downloaded a ringtone (.mp3) to your phone without using a ringtone app:

  1. Search for “file manager” in Play Store and install an app to copy files.
  2. Use that app to move the file from Download into the Ringtones or Notifications or Alarms folder.
  3. Update your settings to select the new ringtone.

    TipIf the new ringtone does not appear as an option, restart the phone.
