Manage SD card

You can move media from internal phone storage to your SD card, easily remove the card to transfer content to other devices, view the storage space available, and erase all content to start fresh.

Move media

To move media to your SD card and free up your phone's internal storage:

  1. Be sure you've inserted and set up your SD card.
  2. Go to Settings > Storage & USB.
  3. Select your SD card.
  4. Touch > Settings > Move media.
  5. Check the boxes for types of media to move (pictures, movies, music).
  6. Touch Move.
TipYou can set the camera to store all new photos and videos on the SD card.

Remove SD card

Drag the SD card notification down, and touch Eject.

If you don't see the notification:

  1. Go to Settings > Storage & USB.
  2. Next to your SD card name, touch .

It's now safe to remove the phone's back and take out the card.

To insert the card into another device (computer, projector, etc.), you may need the adapter that came with your card. See device manufacturer's instructions for the type of adapter required and insertion instructions.

Erase SD card

  1. Go to Settings > Storage & USB.
  2. Select your SD card.
  3. Touch > Settings > Format.
  4. Touch Erase & format.
  5. Touch Done.

Change storage type

You'll need to choose one of two formats for your SD card. Need help deciding which format to use?

  1. Go to Settings > Storage & USB.
  2. Touch the SD card's name.
  3. Touch > Settings.
  4. Touch Format as internal or Format as portable.
