Adjust stylus settings

Keep track of your stylus

To prevent misplacing your stylus, turn on these settings:

  1. Go to Settings > Stylus.

  2. Adjust settings:

    • To receive notifications when you’ve taken out the stylus but haven’t used it for a while, turn Removal reminder on . To change how long before the notification is sent, touch Removal reminder and select a time.

    • To record the time and location you last removed the stylus, turn Record last removal on .

      Be sure to agree to location access at all times. (Grant permission > Allow in settings > Allow all the time)

    • To feel a vibration that confirms you insert the stylus securely, turn Vibrate when inserted on .

Set action for when you remove stylus

You can choose what happens after you remove the stylus from your phone when the screen is locked.

 

  1. Go to Settings > Stylus.

  2. Touch When stylus is removed.

  3. Choose what should happen when you remove the stylus:

    • To see the stylus menu, touch Show shortcuts. To customize the shortcuts, touch .
    • To open a particular app instead, touch Launch an app > and select the app.
    • To stay on the current screen and not react, touch Do nothing.

Set whether Moto Note opens from lock screen

When your phone is locked and you remove the stylus, Moto Note opens so you can write a quick note. Learn more.

To adjust whether this app opens or not:

  1. Go to Settings > Stylus.
  2. Turn on or .

Change shortcuts on stylus menu

  1. Touch & hold one of the shortcuts on the stylus menu.

    Or, go to Settings > Stylus > When stylus is removed and touch by Show shortcuts.

  2. Make changes:

    • To add a shortcut to a blank space, touch an icon.

    • To remove a shortcut, touch .

      You can't remove the (new note) and (screenshot) shortcuts.

    • To change the order, drag icons to new positions.

Turn stylus menu off/on

Turn off temporarily

Touch & hold , and drag it to .

The next time you remove your stylus, the menu will appear again.

Turn off entirely

  1. Go to Settings > Stylus > When stylus is removed.
  2. Remove all shortcuts from the menu.

Turn stylus menu on again

  1. Go to Settings > Stylus > When stylus is removed.
  2. Select Show shortcuts.

Every time you remove your stylus, the menu will appear.
