Gestures

Touch gestures

  • See notification. Swipe up on a notification to read it. Swipe up again to see more notifications.
  • See details or take action. Swipe left on the notification.
  • Dismiss notification. Swipe right on the notification. To bring back a notification that you dismissed, swipe down from the top of your screen, then touch the dismissing button. You'll have about 5 seconds to get the notification back.
  • Minimize notification. Swipe down on the notification.

Wrist gestures

Use wrist gestures to navigate your watch without touching it with your hand. Your watch responds to the direction and quickness of your motion, not the range of motion.

  • Scroll to next notification. Quickly flick wrist away from you, then slowly turn back towards you.
  • Scroll to previous notification. Slowly turn wrist away from you, then quickly flick it back towards you.
  • See more details or take an action. Hold your arm in front of you and quickly push down, then bring it back to the original position.
  • Go back to previous screen. Hold your arm in front of you and quickly pivot up, then lower it to the original position.
  • Return to watch face. Hold your arm in front of you, then shake your wrist out and in a few times.
  • Open apps menu. When on the main watch screen, hold your arm in front of you and quickly push down, then raise it to the original position.
  • Open settings from watch face. When on the main watch screen, slowly turn your wrist away from you, then quickly flick it back towards you.

When you move your watch from the usual viewing orientation, for example, by dropping your wrist after interacting with your watch, this “ungaze gesture” turns off your watch’s screen (or puts it in ambient mode if Always-on screen is on) to reduce the battery drain, and give you extra privacy.

Additional gesture controls may be added in future Android Wear updates. Your watch will notify you when new gestures are available.

To enable wrist gestures:

  1. Swipe left on the watch face, then scroll to Settings .
  2. Touch Wrist gestures.
  3. To practice using wrist gestures, touch .
