Choose how to capture photos

To adjust these settings, tap > AI SETTINGS.

Show palm to take selfie

To have your camera to start a countdown timer when you raise your palm in a selfie, turn Gesture Selfie on .

Capture when everyone's smiling

To have your camera to take a photo when it sees someone smiling, turn Auto Smile Capture on .

For groups of two to five people, it will only take a photo when everyone is smiling.

Tap anywhere to capture

If you want to tap anywhere on the screen, not just on , turn Tap anywhere to capture on .

Get help with composition

Let your camera improve your photography. When you take a photo, it can generate an alternative photo with well-balanced composition alongside your original. It will:

  • Level your shot
  • Apply the rule of thirds concept to offset your subject, drawing the viewer’s eye into the photo

Turn Smart Composition on .

Teach Google Assistant to recognize your voiceTeach Google Assistant to recognize your voice

If you need to teach Google Assistant to recognize your voice so you can capture photos and videos with voice commands:

  1. Open the Google app, then tap your profile icon > Settings > Google Assistant > Hey Google & Voice Match.

  2. Turn on Hey Google and follow the onscreen instructions to record your voice.

Turn shutter sound on/off

This setting is not available in countries that require a shutter sound for privacy reasons.

  1. Tap > CAPTURE SETTINGS.
  2. Turn Shutter sound on or off .

Turn twist gesture on/off

Open your camera instantly from any screen, even your lock screen, with Quick capture.

  1. Tap > CAPTURE SETTINGS.
  2. Tap Quick capture and turn it on .
  3. Select whether to open the rear camera or the selfie camera.

If you don't want to use this gesture, turn Quick capture off .
