Noise heard when shaking phone

If you hear a clicking sound when you shake your phone, it's probably related to the camera's image stabilization function and isn't problematic.

The main camera on the back of your phone provides optical image stabilization (OIS), which reduces photo blur and provides smoother videos:

  • When you're using the camera, a magnetic field holds the lens and moves it to counteract shaking.
  • When you're not using the camera, there's no magnetic field, so the lens can move freely. When shaking the phone, you may hear a soft click as the lens moves. This sound is normal and doesn’t indicate a problem.

To verify the sound is from the camera:

  1. Open the Camera app .
  2. On the viewfinder, check that (main camera lens) is showing.
  3. Gently shake your phone.

If the sound is barely perceptible, then it was related to the camera's OIS and nothing is wrong with your phone.
