Depending on the app, you can use more than one app at once.

Either way, if you wait a few seconds, you’ll see a list of suggested second apps. (You can turn these suggestions off.)
Select the second app to use, from the suggested apps or others.
It opens beside the first app.
Other ways to create a split screen:

You can copy images and text between apps. For example, copy an image from a webpage, then drag it into a note or a text message on the split screen.

The shortcut will appear on your home screen. Just tap the shortcut to restart the split screen with these apps.

With some apps, you can watch video in a small, movable frame while you do other things. Use it when navigating with Google Maps, too.
When you’re playing a video or navigating with Maps, go to the home screen or app you want to use.
The video (or navigation) shrinks.
You can drag the video (or navigation) anywhere on the screen.
