Manage how apps use battery

If one or a few of your apps aren't working correctly, you can adjust battery settings to see if that resolves the app issues. Otherwise, these settings extend battery life and should be kept on .

Change app optimisation settings

When you're not using your phone, it reduces apps' background processes so that it stays in a low-power state and extends battery life.

You can make exceptions for an app, allowing it to use more power in order to run in the background and keep you current.

For best battery life, keep these on .

To adjust an app's settings:

  1. Go to Settings > Battery > App standby optimiser.
  2. Select the app.
  3. Turn App optimised off and make changes:

    • To allow background data when the screen is on, tap Standby wake-up optimisation > Don't optimise. Or, to balance app performance and battery life, select Auto.
    • To allow background data when the screen is off, tap Standby sleep optimisation > Don't optimise. Or, to balance app performance and battery life, select Auto.
    • To allow background data when the phone is connected to a mobile network, tap Standby network data > Don't optimise.

Control if apps open automatically

To reduce battery usage, your phone prevents apps from automatically starting when you turn on the phone or when other apps want to use them (secondary launch).

To allow apps to start automatically:

  1. Go to Settings > Battery > Auto-launch management.
  2. To adjust which apps can automatically start when you turn on your phone:

    1. Tap App auto-launch.
    2. Select which apps to allow.
  3. To adjust which apps can start if another app needs to use it:

    1. Tap App secondary launch.
    2. Select which apps should be able to be opened by others.

Check for power-intensive apps

  1. Go to Settings > Battery.
  2. Tap Power-intensive apps.

Your phone scans for any power-intensive apps and lists them. Apps appear in this list if they frequently:

    • Wake the screen
    • Use GPS
    • Keep the phone unlocked and out of sleep mode for a long time
  3. If you see any apps listed as power intensive:
