Adjust volume

Your phone has independent settings for these volumes:

Adjusting one volume won't affect the others, so you can crank up the tunes without making incoming callers sound like they’re shouting.

Silence your phone

To silence your ringing phone, press the Power or Volume Down button.

To prevent your phone from ringing:

  • To silence your phone but allow alarms, press the Volume down button until you see Alarms only. appears in your status bar. When you want incoming calls to ring again, press Volume Up until you see .
  • To silence your phone including alarms, open quick settings and touch Do not disturb > Total silence. appears in your status bar. When you want incoming calls to ring again, press Volume Up until you see .
  • To switch to vibrate-only mode, press the Volume Down button until you feel a vibration and see .
  • To automatically silence your phone during a certain time (e.g. every Tuesday from 11:00 to noon), set up Do not disturb.

Use Volume buttons

Use the Volume buttons on the side of your phone:

  • To adjust call volume while on a call.
  • To adjust media volume when playing a song, video, or game.
  • To adjust media volume before you play it. After pressing the Volume button, touch and move the slider.
  • To adjust notification volume when playing media. After pressing a Volume button, touch and move the slider.
  • To adjust alarm volume at any time. After pressing a Volume button, touch and move the slider.

Use phone settings

You can also use phone settings to adjust volumes:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Touch Sound & notification.
  3. Touch and drag to adjust each volume setting as needed.
