Reset phone

If you're having trouble with your phone, try rebooting it. And if all else fails, reset it.

If your phone isn't responding

If your phone becomes unresponsive, you can reboot it by pressing and holding the Power button for 7-10 seconds.

If you forgot your screen lock

If you forgot your screen lock and you set up a Motorola ID, from a computer go to motorola.com/support and use the lost phone features to reset your screen lock.

If your phone is using a Google account, you can also reset your screen lock by going to google.com/android/devicemanager from a computer.

If your phone has performance issues

Issues such as apps crashing, unexpected reboots, or fast battery drain could be caused by a third-party app. To check if this is the case, start your phone in safe mode, which temporarily disables any third-party apps you installed.

To reboot in safe mode:

  1. Press and hold the Power button.
  2. Touch & hold Power off.

    TipDon't just touch Power off. Touch & hold it.
  3. Touch OK to start in safe mode.
  4. Use your phone in safe mode to see if the problem persists. If it doesn't, restart your phone to get it out of safe mode and uninstall recently installed apps to see if you can pinpoint the app that's causing the problem.

If all else fails

The last resort is to erase all data on your phone and bring it back to out-of-the-box condition.

Before you erase and reset your phone, be sure to back up all of your data:

You will not be able to recover your text messages.

To erase all data and reset your phone:

  1. Go to Settings > Backup & reset.
  2. Touch Factory data reset.
