Connect with Bluetoothâ„¢

Bluetooth connections can really drain your battery. Save power by turning Bluetooth off when you are not connected to a device.

To connect with a new Bluetooth headset or other device, you need to pair with it. You only need to do this once for each device.

Pair with a Bluetooth device

  1. Make sure the Bluetooth device is in discoverable mode.
  2. Go to Settings and touch BLUETOOTH.
  3. Turn Bluetooth on. If it is already on, touch Search for devices.
  4. Touch a device to connect.
  5. If necessary, touch Pair or enter the device passkey (like 0000) to connect.

    appears in the status bar when the device is connected.

Designate a trusted device

If you use a screen lock on your phone, you can designate a paired Bluetooth device as a trusted device to allow your phone to remain unlocked while connected to it. When you disconnect or move out of range, your phone locks again.

The first time you pair your phone with a Bluetooth device, a notification invites you to set up a trusted device. Touch the notification and follow the on-screen instructions.

If you miss the initial notification, go to Settings > Security > Trusted devices. Then follow the on-screen instructions.

Reconnect with a Bluetooth device

  1. Go to Settings and touch & hold BLUETOOTH to turn it on.
  2. Turn on the Bluetooth device.

    appears in the status bar when the device is connected.

Turn Bluetooth off

Bluetooth drains your battery, so turn it off when not in use.

Go to Settings and touch & hold BLUETOOTH to turn it off.

Change your phone name

Your phone name identifies your phone on a Bluetooth network. You can change the name.

  1. Go to Settings and touch BLUETOOTH.
  2. Make sure Bluetooth is on.
  3. Touch > Rename phone.
