Share your mobile data connection

You can share your phone's mobile data connection with a single computer via USB tethering or Bluetooth tethering. You can also share your data connection with multiple devices at once by turning it into a Wi-Fi hotspot. You can add encryption to your hotspot to prevent unauthorised access.

Share your data connection with a computer

  1. Connect your phone to your computer with a USB cable.

    You'll see in your notifications.

  2. On your phone, go to Settings.
  3. Make sure Wi‑Fi is off, and touch More > Tethering & portable hotspot.
  4. Select USB tethering to start the connection.

To stop the connection, uncheck USB tethering, then disconnect your phone and computer.

Set up a Wi-Fi hotspot

  1. Go to Settings > More > Tethering & portable hotspot.
  2. Touch Portable Wi‑Fi hotspot. To set up security, touch Set up Wi‑Fi hotspot; set up the name for your hotspot (Network SSID) and password then touch Save.

Connect devices to your hotspot

  1. Go to Settings > More > Tethering & portable hotspot.
  2. Check Portable Wi‑Fi hotspot and plug your phone in to charge. Using the hotspot really drains the battery!

You'll see in the status bar, indicating that your hotspot is active. Devices can connect by entering the SSID and password.
