Zap photos and videos to friends

Droid Zap lets you send photos and videos to friends nearby and catch what they send with a simple gesture. The free app is installed on your phone, and you can share it with friends who use any Android devices.

Zap to friends

  1. Open the photo or video and swipe up with two fingers.

  2. The first time you use Droid Zap, you are prompted to accept the privacy policy. Touch Yes, I'm in.
  3. When you zap content, you’ll hear a notification tone (when sound is on) and feel vibration (always).

You’ll see a message reminding you to notify your friends to look for something you sent and in the status bar during the active session. When the session expires, the notification disappears.

  4. To stop sharing before the session expires, swipe the status bar down, and at the bottom of the notification touch X (if you don’t see the option, slide two fingers apart on the notification to expand it).

Catch a zap

  1. To look around for zaps to catch, swipe down with two fingers on any screen.

When Droid Zap catches content, you’ll hear a notification tone (when sound is on) and feel vibration (always).

You’ll see a message on your screen and in the status bar.

  2. Swipe the status bar down to see what you received and, if unlocked, where it is saved:
    • If the content is locked, touch the notification and enter the code from the sender to receive it.
    • To open received content, touch the notification.
    • To delete without opening it, expand the notification and touch .

Lock content

For more privacy, lock content you send with a randomized code:

  1. Drag the status bar down with two fingers and touch  Settings > Droid Zap.
  2. Check Lock things I share.

The next time you zap content, a code will show on the screen and on the notification. Recipients need the code to unlock the content.

Share Droid Zap with friends

Share the free Droid Zap app with your friends who use Android devices.

  1. Drag the status bar down with two fingers and touch  Settings > Droid Zap.
  2. Touch Share the Droid Zap app.

Control when Droid Zap is used

Droid Zap can transfer content over Wi-Fi and mobile networks. To reduce data consumption, set it to transfer over Wi-Fi only. Or, you can turn it off completely.

  1. Drag the status bar down with two fingers and touch  Settings > Droid Zap.
  2. Do one of the following:

    • Touch When to share/catch > Over Wi-Fi only.
    • Slide the Droid Zap switch to OFF.
