Zap photos and videos to friends

Droid Zap lets you send photos and videos to friends nearby and catch what they send with a simple gesture. The free app is installed on your phone, and you can share it with friends who use any Android devices.

Zap to friends

  1. Open the photo or video and swipe up with two fingers.

  2. The first time you use Droid Zap, you are prompted to accept the privacy policy. Touch Yes, I'm in.
  3. When you zap content, you’ll hear a notification tone (when sound is on) and feel vibration (always).

    You’ll see a message reminding you to notify your friends to look for something you sent and on the DROID Command Center widget.

  4. To stop sharing before the session expires, touch > .

Catch a zap

  1. To look around for zaps to catch, swipe down with two fingers on any screen.

    When Droid Zap catches content, you’ll hear a notification tone (when sound is on) and see a message on your screen.

  2. Do one of the following:

    • If the content is locked, enter the code from the sender to receive it.
    • To open received content, touch the card.
    • To delete without opening it, touch > .
TipYou can also open Droid Zap in the DROID Command Center widget. Touch .

Lock content

For more privacy, lock content you send with a randomized code:

  1. Touch > Droid Zap.
  2. Touch > Settings.
  3. Check Lock things I share.

The next time you zap content, a code will show on the screen and on the notification. Recipients need the code to unlock the content.

Automatically share photos with a group

Want to send a series of photos to a group without sending each photo individually? Set up a Zap Zone:

  1. Touch > Droid Zap.
  2. Swipe right from the left edge of the screen and touch Zap Zones.
  3. Touch > New Zap Zone.
  4. Give your invitation a title and modify the lock code if desired.
  5. Swipe up with two fingers to share the invitation.
  6. To stop sharing the Zap Zone, on the notification, touch End Zap Zone.

Share Droid Zap with friends

Share the free Droid Zap app with your friends who use Android devices.

  1. Touch > Droid Zap.
  2. Touch > Share Zap app.

Control when Droid Zap is used

Droid Zap can transfer content over Wi‑Fi and mobile networks. To reduce data consumption, set it to transfer over Wi‑Fi only. Or, you can turn it off completely.

  1. Touch > Droid Zap.
  2. Touch > Settings.
  3. Do one of the following:

    • Touch When to share/catch > Over Wi‑Fi only.
    • Slide the switch to OFF.

View Droid Zap history

Quickly access zaps you've sent and received.

  1. Touch > Droid Zap.
  2. Do one of the following:

    • To show only photos or only videos, touch > Photos or Videos.
    • To show all zaps, touch Zap Activity.
