Silence calls & notifications

When you're busy, use Do not disturb to mute ringtones for incoming calls, stop vibration, and block notifications.

Quickly turn Do not disturb on or off

Turn it on

To start, press the Volume Down button multiple times until you see Alarms only.

You can also schedule your phone to automatically switch into and out of Do not disturb mode.

Turn it off

Press the Volume Down button and touch Turn off now.

Set down to start

You can turn on Do not disturb by placing your phone face down on a surface. To enable this gesture:

  1. Open the Moto app.
  2. Touch Features > Moto Actions.
  3. Touch Flip for Do Not Disturb and turn it on .

Silence sounds and vibrations

  1. Open quick settings, touch Do not disturb, and turn it on .
  2. Choose a level of silence:

    • Total silence
    • Alarms only
    • Priority only to be alerted with sound and vibration only for notifications you define as priority (Touch More settings to prioritize.)
  3. Choose how long to stay in that mode:

    • To keep it on indefinitely, touch Until you turn off Do Not Disturb.
    • Or, select a duration (touch - or + to change the duration).

You'll see one of these icons in the status bar:

Icon Mode
Total silence
Alarms only or Priority only

When the duration expires, notifications will sound and vibrate again. If you chose Until you turn off Do Not Disturb, be sure to turn sounds back on when needed by pressing the Volume Down button and touching Turn off now.

Define priority notifications

  1. Go to Settings > Sound.
  2. Touch Do Not Disturb preferences > Priority only allows.
  3. Touch options to turn sound for their notifications on or off:

    • Reminders
    • Events from your calendars
    • Messages from anyone, from contacts only, from starred contacts only, or none
    • Calls from anyone, from contacts only, from starred contacts only, or none
    • Repeat callers, from the same person calling a second time within 15 minutes

Stop visual disturbances in Do not disturb mode

When your phone is in Do not disturb mode, you can prevent silenced notifications from:

  • Turning the screen on when it's off
  • Peeking or popping up when your screen is on

To block these disturbances:

  1. Go to Settings > Sound.
  2. Touch Do Not Disturb preferences > Block visual disturbances.
  3. Turn the features on or off.

Silence on schedule

You can create a schedule for when your phone should automatically switch into and out of Do not disturb mode.

  1. Go to Settings > Sound.
  2. Touch Do Not Disturb preferences
  3. Use rules to set the schedule:

    • To use an existing rule, touch Weekend or Weeknight. Turn the rule on and adjust options to change its name, days, start and end times, and level of silence (Priority only, Alarms only, Total silence).
    • To create a new rule, touch Add more. Touch Time rule, then enter a name and touch OK. Specify its days, start and end times, and level of silence.

To stop your phone from automatically silencing:

  1. Go to Settings > Sound.
  2. Touch Do Not Disturb preferences.
  3. Select the rule and turn it off or touch to delete it.

Silence during calendar events

Your phone can automatically switch into and out of Do not disturb mode for all scheduled events in calendars that you specify.

  1. Go to Settings > Sound.
  2. Touch Do Not Disturb preferences.
  3. Do one of the following:

    • To use an existing one, turn it on.
    • To create a new one, touch Add more. Touch Event rule, then enter a name and touch OK.
  4. Adjust options to select the calendar to use, your reply status for the events, and the level of silence (Priority only, Alarms only, Total silence).

To stop your phone from automatically silencing:

  1. Go to Settings > Sound.
  2. Touch Do Not Disturb preferences.
  3. Select the rule and turn it off or touch to delete it.
