Connect to Wi‑Fi networks

Turn on and connect

Some Wi‑Fi networks are open and you can simply connect for internet access. Other Wi‑Fi networks are secure and require you to enter a password. Contact the Wi-Fi network's owner for the password.

To search for and connect with available Wi‑Fi networks:

  1. Open quick settings and touch Wi‑Fi.
  2. Turn Wi‑Fi on .
  3. Touch the Wi‑Fi network you want to connect to.
  4. If the network is a secure one, enter the password. For your home network, get the password from the label on the Wi-Fi router. For a public network, get the password from the business or organization.

    TipMake sure you enter the password correctly. Touch Show password to see what you’re typing.

When your phone is connected, you'll see in the status bar. If the connection is poor, appears in the status bar.

Reconnect with Wi‑Fi network

Open quick settings and touch the icon if Wi-Fi is not already on. ( means Wi-Fi is on. means Wi-Fi is off.) Your phone automatically connects to a previously-connected Wi-Fi networks when you're in range.

To connect to a different network, touch the name of the current network, then choose another network.

Turn Wi-Fi off

To extend the life of your battery between charges, turn off Wi‑Fi when you're not in a location with access to Wi‑Fi.

Open quick settings and touch to turn it off.

Advanced: Forget saved network

If you don't want to automatically connect to a saved Wi-Fi network, you can forget that network.

  1. Open Settings and touch Wi‑Fi.
  2. Touch the network’s name and touch FORGET.

Advanced: Disable Wi-Fi scanning

  1. Go to Settings > LOCATION.
  2. Touch > Scanning.
  3. Turn Wi‑Fi scanning off .

If you turn this off, apps that use your location won't work as well.

Advanced: Connect to hidden networks

  1. Go to Settings > Wi‑Fi > Add network.
  2. Enter the SSID (network name), security type, check Show password and enter the password.
  3. Touch Save.

    The hidden network is now visible in the list of available networks, and if you weren’t connected to Wi-Fi previously, you’re now connected.

  4. If you were connected to Wi-Fi when you added the hidden network, in the list of available networks, touch the name of the saved network, then touch Connect.

  1. Open Settings and touch Wi‑Fi.
  2. Touch > Keep Wi‑Fi on during sleep.
  3. Touch Always.
